Dive Galle/Unawatuna
World class beaches in the land of the Giant Maori Wrasse

West Coast Diving - November through May

Golden Beaches   Paradise

Miles and miles of long beautiful sandy beaches. Welcome to Unawatuna!

The beaches of Unawatuna are world class and world famous. Long stretches of pristine sand is a much sought after paradise for beach goers. Completely rebuilt after the devastating 2004 Tsunami 9.0, Unawatuna is back in business with excellent beach side accommodation and wide variety of restaurants catering to different cuisine.

Diving in Unawatuna is excellent too. This is one place we have consistently encountered the Giant Maori Wrasse (a.k.a. Napoleon). There are also many beautiful ship wrecks and dive sites with rocky formations covered with Black Coral.

24M 15 Min Good A ship wreck popular among resort divers and mistakenly known as the "Tango Wreck" is probably the SS Orestes that sank in 1875. Based on several pieces of circumstantial evidence we strongly believe that this is the SS Orestes that sank after striking the Gindura Reef.
